Wedge in Reduction
A white stoneware vase that has been fired in reduction. This is where firing pottery gets interesting. This is my classic 'clay glaze' but fired in a reduced atmosphere. At the high temperature the iron sand in the clay body bursts open, and the colour changes due to carbon trapping and oxygen being starved from the kiln. This is what gives the glaze a speckled egg look. Definately a one of a kind.
While I love this look, it's not something that I will pursue in the future.
